Rioja Gran Reserva Vina Arana 2015 - La Rioja Alta (75cl)

The Vina Arana Gran Reserva is an exciting addition to the La Rioja Alta range. Although it is priced below the two established wines Gran Reserva 890 and Gran Reserva 904, it was made with the same dedication and attention to detail . This wine consists of 95% Tempranillo from 40-year-old vines and is complemented by 5% Graciano from the Montecillo winery in Fuenmayor. The Graciano gives the wine aromatic intensity and acidity that perfectly complement the structure and elegance of the Tempranillo. Both grape varieties ripen separately in American oak for three years before developing as a cuvee in the bottle for another three years. The Gran Reserva is only made in very good vintages.
In the glass, this Vina Arana shows a fascinating color of deep cherry red with the typical garnet red rim. The bouquet is intense and reveals ripe red fruits, wild berries and plum jam, followed by wonderful tertiary aromas such as vanilla, cedar, hints of tobacco, coffee and a touch of caramel. On the palate it is wonderfully balanced, with impressive freshness and incredibly delicate tannins. There is a nice spiciness and hints of fully ripe dark berries. The elegance and complexity continues in the finish, where ripe red fruits and balsamic notes form a wonderful conclusion. The aromas unfold again and again...
