Nicolas Joly is the high priest of biodynamic viticulture, strictly adheres to the teachings of Rudolf Steiner and is himself the author of several books on the subject. He is the best-known and most idiosyncratic winemaker on the Loire and his Clos de la Coulée de Serrant is considered by many connoisseurs to be the best white wine in France and the world. The 7-hectare single vineyard Clos de la Coulée de Serrant was created in 1130 by Cistercian monks on a barren, slatey steep slope above the Loire. The quality of this location is so exceptional that even French kings did not miss the chance to visit it. There are very controversial opinions about Nicolas Joly's wines; What is certain, however, is that his most successful products can lead to the greatest wine experiences when treated correctly.
