The 2020 Hacienda Monasterio shows what Peter Sisseck calls a “neoclassical” style of Ribera, with more freshness and 14.5% alcohol, harvested early and with higher yields. And perhaps because of the Cabernet content in the blend (around 10%), which also includes some Merlot and Malbec, the wine has an insane freshness and avoids some of the excesses of the past. Higher yields, an earlier harvest and careful ripening resulted in a super elegant Hacienda Monasterio that more than lives up to its excellent reputation.
