World class family jewel
The Santa Duc winery, in the hands of the same family since 1874, has established itself as an important pillar in the wine world of the southern Rhône and is considered the jewel of Gigondas. In 1985, this legacy was passed from father to son, to Yves Gras - a master of his craft who embodies tradition and innovation at the same time. Yves realized early on that returning to the roots would help Gigondas regain its glory. With his keen eye for detail and tireless dynamism, he has managed to redefine the true essence of the terroir and bring Gigondas out of the shadow of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. For decades, its wines have been at the top of the appellation, proof that Gigondas can produce more than just robust and high-alcohol wines, but also wines full of fascination, expressiveness and sophistication.
The wines of Santa Duc, from vines up to 80 years old in neighboring communities and in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, reflect the quintessence of the individual plots. Yves Gras manages to create wines of incomparable complexity and perfection from these different terroirs. The lower vineyards provide strength and fullness, while the higher altitudes contribute freshness and an aromatic kaleidoscope. Santa Duc wines stand for authenticity and character , far away from short-lived trends. They are charming, voluptuous and generous without ever being intrusive. Despite their strength and concentration, they maintain a calm sovereignty. Yves Gras has been able to refine the wines even further in recent years by fine-tuning their finesse and terroir expression , including by aging them in large barrels or used barriques. Just as Yves has a fascinating presence among people and vines, his wines enchant and pamper every tasting and every table.
